TERRACE BOYS

14/01/08

The drummer-boy rhythm of synchronised steps from the Saturday army. The buzz of sole meeting soul above the manicured grass battlefield. The armies rise and shake their fists and a palpable whoosh as a whistle unleashes pent-up angst gathered from a week on the job.

This trend is a polyester celebration of the moment footie culture made it’s shiny mark on the mainstream. The Smiths were ruling the radio-waves Manchester was at the centre of all things trendy. Smart, tailored clothing folded under a looser ethos. The ordinary became beautiful.

Sport-casual flirts with a dangerous post-punk aesthetic. Aggressive and confident, this look has no frills. Button down polo shirts should be worn with matching cardigans. The skinny jean relaxes and becomes cleaner and fresher. Harrington jackets and plaid shirts add definition.

Granddads, v-neck jumpers and denim westerns all work well for the Terrace Boys. Add acid primaries to give it some flair. Shake out those tracksuits and nylons for an authentic 80s look.

Hear that? Stand up, shake a fist, get casual.

ACADEMIC

Part geeky, part prep, this trend is all about boat-chic and satchel-cool. Think punting on the Cam, 1920s jazz clubs and more champagne than you can shake a polo club at.
